The UN warns that the conflict in Sudan can impact the “fragile” situation in the region
Riyadh and Washington, as mediators, reaffirm the importance of the truce

The United States Government has assured this Tuesday that it “will not hesitate” to use the tools at its disposal to preserve the ceasefire in Sudan “when it is appropriate to do so”, without specifying any action for the moment.
“This is a very delicate situation, in which we are holding intensive diplomatic talks, both directly with the two parties and with our partners in the region. But we have several tools at our disposal and we will not hesitate to use them when appropriate,” the spokesperson explained. of the Department of State, Matthew Miller, in a press conference.
Miller also explained that the representatives of the ceasefire monitoring coordination committee have entered into talks about the deliveries of humanitarian aid. Thus, he explained that the aid package -valued at 220 million euros- announced by the US government “is not only for the population of Sudan, but also for neighboring countries that are suffering the effects of the current crisis humanitarian”.
THE UN ALERTS THE REGIONAL IMPACT OF THE CONFLICT IN SUDAN
The spokesman for the UN Secretary General, Stéphane Dujarric, has warned that “the ongoing conflict in Sudan, if it does not stop, is very likely to have a regional impact.”
“The region itself is quite fragile. It could have an impact on what is happening in South Sudan. It could have an impact on Chad,” he said, indicating that the latter country “already faces its own problems and welcomes more refugees”.
Dujarric, who has pointed out that there are also refugees in Cameroon or the Central African Republic, among others, has urged the Sudanese parties to “put the interest of the Sudanese people first.”
“We have outlined the humanitarian tragedy that is unfolding, but this not only risks having repercussions in Sudan, which is already doing so, but throughout the region,” he concluded.
SAUDI ARABIA AND THE US REAFFIRM THE IMPORTANCE OF THE TRUCE
For their part, Saudi Arabia and the United States reaffirmed on Tuesday the importance of the short-term truce agreement, since “after five weeks of continuous conflict, the Sudanese people urgently need humanitarian aid and the restoration of essential services that the ceasefire in the short term pretend to allow”.
“The Saudi and American mediators note with concern that neither party respected its commitment not to seek military advantages during the 48-year period after the signing of the agreement and prior to its entry into force,” reads a joint statement in which they also point out that the parties have violated the ceasefire.
Riyadh and Washington have reiterated their commitment to the Sudanese people, demanding that the Sudanese Army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) “fulfill their commitments” under the temporary humanitarian ceasefire. “The Sudanese people continue to suffer as a result of this devastating conflict,” they have settled.
