During the 90s, the relationship between Rare and Nintendo was very strong and seemed destined to last for many years. However, after succeeding on the Nintendo 64 with very good games, each company took its course and Microsoft’s nascent Xbox took over the British company and its franchises. The years have passed and the nostalgia for Rare’s classics, especially on the aforementioned console, is more relevant than ever and it could be that a surprise is on the way.
Microsoft renews registration of Blast Corps and you are already thinking about Switch Online
According to information from nintendo lifeMicrosoft applied for the renewal of the trademark of Blast Corps, franchise created by Rare for the development and launch of a game on Nintendo 64. The title debuted in 1997 and is part of the list of licenses that Microsoft has thanks to the long-standing acquisition of Rare. Although this movement can be considered as a routine procedure to keep the trademark registration under control, there are those who think that Blast Corps could return as a re-release for the Switch Online Nintendo 64 library, just like it did with Banjo-Kazooie.
Blast Corps is an action puzzle game with the goal of demolishing everything in the path of a nuclear missile carrier. At the time, it was one of the games that served as tech demos for the Nintendo 64, demonstrating Nintendo’s move towards 3D development. Likewise, its proposal and mechanics were ideal to see the Nintendo 64 control stick in action.
So far, there is no official information about what will happen with Blast Corps but it is known that Nintendo has already exhausted the first list of N64 titles on Switch Online and the expectation is that more classics are on the way.
