6 Jan. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The balance of deaths due to the sinking of a boat in a river in the state of Kebbi, located in northwestern Nigeria, has risen to 15, as confirmed by the authorities.
The president of the local government of Koko Besi, Yahaya Bello, has affirmed in statements to the British television channel BBC that so far 15 bodies have been located, while 80 people have been rescued.
The event would have been caused by an overload of the boat, according to what Bello himself indicated on Thursday, who explained that a meeting had previously been held to alert local communities about the use of old or overloaded boats.
Events of this type are relatively frequent in Nigeria. In October 2022, nearly 80 people died after a boat capsized in the state of Anambra, in the southeast of the African country.
