The action of Warzone 2.0 takes place on a new map called Al Mazrah configured by a metropolitan area and rural areas belonging to the Republic of Adal. The battlefield, which shares scenarios with the Modern Warfare II multiplayer (such as Al Bagra Fortress, Embassy, Zarqwa Hydroelectric, Taras, Sariff Bay and Sa’id), is not the only great novelty of the battle royale. In addition to Al Mazrah, Activision studios led by Raven Software have introduced a new set of features and mechanics.
One of these changes concerns the gulag, which is now an environment where two randomly matched teams of two players will have to defeat the enemy. Towards the middle of the game, the jailer will enter to interfere in the fight and if the players manage to defeat him, all four of them will return to the game. Working as a team or betting on elimination will depend on each one. There will also be AI-controlled combatants in two other areas of the map: Strongholds and Black Sites. Strongholds requires you to locate and disarm a bomb, while Black Sites offers a permanent weapon blueprint as a reward.
Warzone 2.0 players will also have to deal with up to three zones spawning within a circle that will converge into one for the final fight. Likewise, aquatic combat is introduced, either by boat or by swimming, and a refueling system that requires filling the tank with gasoline drums or at service stations. Vehicles and cars can also be fixed at gas stations. In addition, there is an improved buy station that allows you to recover squadmates and purchase equipment.
Warzone 2.0 also introduces DMZ, a way of battle royale which is described as “a new open world experience, an extraction mode where operators have complete freedom to complete missions for their faction, accept side tasks, fight against enemy operators or AI fighters or explore the terrain for items of value, all while struggling to survive.” DMZ debuts as a beta, and Infinity Ward says the release is “just the beginning.”
Even though it’s a standalone game and free to playWarzone 2.0 is linked to Modern Warfare 2, with which it shares a battle pass.
