Online combat fantasy game from London Studio

London Studio Co-Head of Studio Tara Saunders describes the new title as “our most ambitious game to date”.

“We’re going to take all of that DNA of innovation and apply it to this cooperative online combat game,” Saunders said.

“[In our concept art] you’re looking at a version of a modern day fantasy London. Our overarching theme is about bringing fantastical and magical elements and crossing them with familiar worlds, and there is nothing more familiar to us than London.”

According to Whyte, London Studio came up with “a bunch of ideas” over several months, then refined them until there were only a few left. From there, he talked to several other PlayStation studios, as well as each other at the studio about which project he was most passionate about.

“This concept scored very highly in all of those areas,” said Whyte. “We polled hundreds of gamers across the UK and US, via an anonymous survey, with some of the shortlisted ideas… This was the one that came out on top.”

The game is being built on London Studio’s in-house Soho Engine, which was built to take full advantage of PlayStation 5.

“Our Soho Engine, our in-house game engine, is at the heart of what we’re doing here,” said Whyte. “This is an engine that was built from the ground up for this generation of hardware and the needs of the game we are creating. It’s designed to get the most out of PlayStation 5. But it’s fair to say that some of the toolset we’re using goes back to the virtual reality worlds Y blood and truth technology we had on Playstation 4. Because at the end of the day, virtual reality games they need to have super efficient pipes and motors.”
