Five people murdered in an armed attack in central Mexico

Four men and a woman were shot to death during a community meeting in a town in central Mexico where a multiple homicide was recorded less than a year ago.

The armed attack occurred on Monday night in the town of Huitzilac, in the state of Morelos, where five people who had participated in the election of communal property were shot, Mayor César Dávila Díaz reported on his Facebook account.

When condemning the incident, Dávila Díaz stated that “these acts lack any justification and go against the principles of respect, coexistence and dialogue.”

According to local media, the five deceased people were part of the local organization Planilla Morada and were shot by armed individuals who broke into a home and shot at those present.

In May of last year, armed men traveling in two vehicles murdered eight people who were drinking beer after a soccer game on a street in Huitzilac.

Residents attributed the attack to a turf war between the criminal organizations of the Familia Michoacana, La Unión de Morelos and other cartels that have made the state of Morelos one of the most violent in Mexico.
