The EU supports Ethiopia against the flow of Sudanese refugees with 40 million in humanitarian aid

This Tuesday, the European Union announced humanitarian aid worth 40 million euros to Ethiopia, a country hit by the impact of internal and regional conflicts and recurring climate phenomena.

In particular, aid will be channeled to those internally displaced by the conflict in the Tigray region and newly arrived refugees from neighboring countries such as Sudan, a nation marked by conflict since the outbreak of the civil war in April 2023.

The annual allocation will be 40 million, the European Commission has indicated in a statement in which it recalls that the humanitarian budget for Addis Ababa amounts to 436.5 million since 2020.

This aid is key to supporting the work of humanitarian actors on the ground and will focus on protection, food aid, access to drinking water and hygiene, shelter, basic necessities, nutritional assistance, disease prevention and access to health care. primary school, as well as education and protection for children caught in humanitarian crises.
