Ana Bertha Lepe She was recognized as one of the most beautiful women in Mexico and the world during the Golden Age of Mexican Cinemaof which he was a participant thanks to his roles as the protagonist in different films such as The monster ship (1960). Her success would not last long because in her youth her career was destroyed by her father, who did not want her to associate with any man.
Ana Bertha enjoyed fame since she was 20 years old thanks to the fact that she caught the attention of several current producers for her beauty, but also because she dedicated herself to dancing, being a popular vedette.
Thanks to the attention received, Lepe was encouraged to participate in the beauty pageant Miss Mexicorepresenting Jalisco. Upon winning, that same year, in 1954, she participated in Miss Universemanaging to reach fourth placebeing the first Mexican to reach that position.
Her participation in the contest opened many doors for her and her career as an actress improved considerably, leading to starring in films such as The Viscount of Monte Cristo (1954), The hawks (1956) or Homeless rebel (1960).
During his time on the recording sets, he met the actor Agustín de Andawho had positioned himself as a promise of Mexican cinema. Both artists began a relationship, which had to fight against Ana Bertha’s father, Guillermo Lepe, because he was opposed to his daughter having relationships with men who were not to her liking.
The couple got engaged and the wedding was already prepared for June 1960, but it would not take place because of Ana’s father.
The night of May 29one day after the death of her friend and also actor, Ramón Gay, Ana Bertha had to appear at the cabaret The Sourcelocated in Insurgentes Sur, where he worked as vedette. Her father always came to pick her up after every show, so he was there too.
That day, Agustín also attended his fiancée’s presentation and sat next to his father-in-law. While they were drinking, they both expressed their negative feelings towards each other and the conversation escalated until the actress arrived and they changed the subject.
When leaving the place, they confronted each other again and Guillermo Lepe took out a 360 caliber pistolshooting his daughter’s boyfriend twice, who died a few minutes later bleeding to death, having 26 years. Without repentance, a few hours later the murderer surrendered to the authorities.
