In the absence of a demo, well it’s a 13-minute Direct to learn about the proposal for Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, a title that if everything goes according to plan will go on sale on February 21 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series and PC through Steam. In addition to talking about the combat system, ship customization, locations, missions or secondary experiences, in the Direct it has been confirmed that in a post-launch update the title will incorporate the New Game+ mode.

Like a Dragon Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii combines two fighting styles, Mad Dog and Sea Dog. The Mad Dog style uses Majima’s past experiences to slash and stun opponents. It is a way of fighting that offensively takes advantage of speed and agility to execute precise and powerful combos, while in case of dodging and blocking it allows you to deploy a counterattack and use a Heat Action. If you attack enough, the madness meter will refill and Majima will be able to summon shadow doubles that multiply his strength to kill several enemies at once.

For its part, the Sea Wolf style allows the brandishing of two short alfajantes, a sword with a wide, curved blade, and buccaneer weapons. With this combination Majima can attack from afar by throwing his slashes as if they were boomerangs, use the chain hook to get closer to enemies and use firearms to finish them off. This style of play also features Dark Instruments, an option that is activated by having the madness meter maxed out. These instruments allow you to summon beasts such as a giant parrot and a shark.

As a good captain, Majima will have a pirate ship, the Goromaru, which can be customized to your liking, from the hull to the protections, including the sails and the figurehead. The ship needs a crew, so players must also select the cabin boys who will accompany the hero during navigation. Pirates require training and each one has a bond with Majima that can be improved. Likewise, you have to think about the cannons, which can be installed in the stern, bow, port and starboard. There is also the option to use a modern missile launcher and upgrade the arsenal.

After the combat on the high seas, you can collide with a rival ship and initiate a boarding, which will lead to a pitched battle on the deck.

Home on the mainland is Rich Island, a fishing town where you can rest and live a relaxed life. There is also the option of visiting Madlantis, a secret criminal lair controlled by pirates where you can participate in various activities such as the Pirate Coliseum, a place where the player’s skills are tested in combat. In the Colosseum there are four types of battles, each with its own rank and unique challenges that reward bravery with rewards. The activities of Isla Rich have the seal of the Yakuza/Like a Dragon saga.
