Weatherford simply announced that they are working on the two aforementioned projects and did not reveal the slightest detail about their development. The origins of Art of Fighting date back to the early 90s, a great era for fighting games and arcades with titles such as Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat, Virtua Fighter, Killer Instinct and those from the SNK universe itself such as Samurai Shodown, Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters (KOF). At the time, Art of Fighting stood out for its high-quality graphics and a zoom effect that brought the characters closer to the camera every time the distance between them was reduced.
A new installment of Art of Fighting means that players will be able to return to South Town, a city where Ryo Sakazaki and Robert Garcia, two disciples of Takuma Sakazaki, founder of the Kyokugenryu Karate style, joined forces to find Yuri Sakazaki. The Art of Fighting saga has been buried since the late 90s.
Samurai Shodown is a fighting game franchise that is just as old as Art of Fighting, but unlike the latter, it has never been abandoned by SNK. The latest installment was released in 2019. This saga stands out for being set in 18th-century Japan during the sakoku, a policy that isolated the country from the rest of the world, and for characters who base their combat on the use of weapons. An ARPG will be a notable but not entirely strange change of genre. In the late 90s, SNK released a Samurai Shodown role-playing game that narrated the events of the first two installments.
Finally, we have the news about The King of Fighters XV, which includes the arrival of Mature and Vice. Both fighters will be available at the same time in December. For now, we have to confirm their name and release window, as SNK has not offered any trailer that allows us to see these former servants of Orochi in action.
