More calls for Biden to drop out of the race

President Joe Biden has tested positive for Covid, once again, just before appearing at a conference in Las Vegas, according to the president of UnidosUS.

Covid comes as more Democratic Party leaders are joining in to call on Biden to reconsider dropping out of the race. The Washington Post reported that former President Barack Obama has expressed that Biden should consider his viability, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi privately told President Joe Biden in a recent conversation that polls show he cannot defeat Donald Trump and that his candidacy could destroy Democrats’ chances of winning the House in November if he continues to seek a second term, reported. Those same concerns were raised by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries when they spoke privately with the president. Adding to this, Congressman Adam Schiff, a California Senate candidate and Pelosi ally, publicly called on Biden to drop out of the race.

“While the choice to withdraw from the campaign is solely President Biden’s responsibility, I believe it is time for him to pass the torch. And in doing so, we will secure his legacy of leadership by allowing us to defeat Donald Trump in the upcoming election.”

Biden waves and says he’s fine.

At 81 years old, the president Biden remains defiant of calls to drop out, arguing that he beat Donald Trump in 2020 and will do so again this year. But a growing number of Democratic leaders are expressing concern, publicly and privately. Some hope his days in isolation will allow them to assess the trajectory of his race. Biden has said he will only drop out if a medical condition arises.

“If I had a medical condition that comes up. If someone, if the doctors come to me and say you have this problem.”

The Democratic National Committee said it was working to officially announce Biden’s nomination in late July via a virtual nomination, but its rules committee said no virtual voting will begin before August 1.
