A police officer was injured in an attack in Paris’s 8th arrondissement on rue Vernet near the Champs-Elysées on Thursday, after security officers at a shop called the police. The attacker then approached the officers and attacked one of them with a knife before being neutralised.
Paris police said the incident occurred in the famous Champs-Elysees shopping district. According to local media, the attacker had to be removed from a shop and tried to flee with a knife in his hand. When he was caught by one of the officers, he was hit in the ear while another police officer fired his weapon at him.
It was the Minister of the Interior, Gerald Darmanin, himself who reported the incident in a post on social media.
A large police operation has been deployed in the area, which has been cordoned off to investigate the incident.
