At least 14 dead after a landslide on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi

JAKARTA, April 14 (DPA/EP) –

Indonesian authorities reported this Sunday that 14 people have died and one remains missing after a landslide caused by the heavy torrential rains that have hit the island of Sulawesi since Saturday.

The spokesman for the National Disaster Management Agency, Abdul Muhari, detailed that four houses located in the Tana Toraja district, in the province of South Sulawesi, have been buried after the landslide.

Muhari has also indicated that rescue services are searching for a person who is missing in the mountainous area of southern Makale, in the aforementioned province. The search has been hampered by the lack of electricity and heavy rain.

At the end of March, the Asian country already experienced another episode of torrential rains on the island of Java, where at least five people died due to a landslide, according to authorities.
