At least one dead and eleven wounded after RSF bombing in Omdurman

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has estimated the number of displaced people at 328,000 as a result of fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia in the city of El Fasher, capital of the Sudanese state of North Darfur (west).

This figure covers the period between April 1, when the escalation of violence in the area intensified, and June 30, and is therefore likely to continue to rise as the humanitarian crisis worsens.

The RSF has bombed the Saudi Hospital for the tenth time, causing serious damage and loss of medical equipment, according to the Sudan Tribune, which reported that the internet had been cut off in the city for “security reasons.”

The fighting is also affecting other parts of the country, such as the city of Omdurman, on the banks of the Nile, where an RSF bombing has killed one woman and injured eleven others.

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, and the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatti, have spoken about the conflict.

“We have discussed the dramatic situation and the political stalemate. We need to put more pressure on the warring parties and come to an agreement within the international community to move the negotiations forward,” Borrell said in a statement posted on his social media account X.

The war broke out on April 15, 2023, due to strong disagreements over the process of integrating the paramilitary group – now declared a terrorist organization – into the Armed Forces, a situation that caused the definitive derailment of the transition that began in 2019 after the overthrow of the regime of Omar Hassan al Bashir.
